The Publisher’s Office over at Penguin is a perfect example of a digital strategy done right. Here you can listen to podcasts about literature, watch video interviews with famous authors, and of course read digital editions of Penguin’s bestselling books.
The ‘Reading Room‘ is using Issuu Pro editions, embedded in large size so you easily can read previews of the new books before you buy them. Check out this example with Lev Grossman’s The Magicians.
We asked Jeff Gomez, who’s the Senior Director of Online Consumer Sales and Marketing at Penguin, about why they chose Issuu Pro for their digital editions:
“We looked at a couple of ways that we could offer an online reading experience to users—including via regular HTML—and in the end we felt that Issuu was the best choice. What we love about it is that, because we’re using the PDFs of the books on From the Publisher’s Office, the online reading experience exactly mirrors the experience of reading the book in a physical format: all the design elements are there, the chapter headings, etc. Plus, the page-turning is really intuitive; it all made perfect sense. And, frankly, at the end of the day, it’s all about the content. The books and our authors are the real attraction. All of our various Web efforts, whether we’re developing websites or an iPhone app, need to make it easy for readers to discover and engage with our books, and Issuu helps with that.”
There are a lot more Penguin books to sample in the Reading Room, and of course on Issuu.

Absolutely superb, I really like the example which demonstrates how fun and intuitive it really is to use. Plus there seems to be nothing that really matches the experience of holding and using a book quite like this in the digital domain!
